A "Lazy" Day

Monday was supposed to be our "lazy" day.  We didn't really have much planned.  There were a few places we wanted to go back and take some pictures, so Grandma and Grandad picked us up.  The first place we headed was back to the farm Grandma grew up on.  The couple that Scott's Grandpa sold his farm to when they moved to Florida in the 60's still lives there.  Grandma called him that morning to see if he minded if we come over and take some pictures of the farm.  He said he wouldn't be there but that we could take as many pictures as we wanted. The first picture is Grandma, Madison and Daddy in front of the house Scott's Grandpa built.

When you pull off the road to the farm there is a long driveway/dirt road that passes in front of the house and dead ends here at this field/pasture.

An old piece of farm equipment (I don't know what it's called...tiller??) that was in front of the house.

The view from the back of the house.

An old barn that was there when Grandma was a little girl.  The main barn that was there when she lived was torn down a long time ago.  She said this barn was there, but she couldn't remember what it was used for.

Not too far from the farm is where Grandma went to school from Kindergarten to 3rd grade. At 3rd grade she switched from "country" school to the community school in Murray. This is the site of where her country school used to be located.

Next we went back to Mallory Park.  I had wanted to get a picture with the sign because one of the names we have picked out if we ever have another girl is Mallorie.

The next stop was Murray Community School where Grandma went from 3rd grade until she was 13 years old.  She said on her first day there she remembers thinking how big this school was.  It is a K-12 school and is still the ONLY school in the town! They have done some adding on, but this was the original building that Grandma went to school in.

Next we grabbed some lunch and then took a nap and then went to Shane and Trish's house for dinner. Shane is Linda's son.  They had a good spread of hamburgers, brats, (I had a cheese sandwich) potato casserole and CORN! I was disappointed in Madison, she didn't eat any of her corn.  She gets fickle with her eating sometimes, but we were in Iowa where the corn is fresh from the field and she wouldn't eat it! Anyway after dinner and dessert (cupcakes and brownies) we took some more pictures around Shane and Trish's yard (they have 27 acres!).

The whole gang at dinner.

Madison really liked the cupcake frosting!

Family shot on their back deck.

Thanks for having us over for dinner Trish and Shane.

Linda and Steve.

Maddie and Daddy in front of Trish's garden.

Mommy's turn!

Madison helped Shane feed the fish just before this was taken.  Here she and Daddy are watching the fish get their food, you can see little ripples in the water from the fish feeding

Madison and Daddy with an old John Deere tractor.

All these pictures are great! They remind me of little House on the Prairie. I would love to live in a place like that. Love all the land your relatives (Scott's) have. Mallorie (with an ie) was one of our girl names, too! We may have to beat you to the punch if we're going to stake a claim on that name!
